Back in 2014, several Berkshire County towns joined hands to find a reasonably priced alternative electric supplier to National Grid. While National Grid is still the company that gets electricity to your house or business, the Colonial Power Group offers us an alternative to who generates the electricity that National Grid will deliver to us over its power lines. In addition, for the immediate future Colonial Power Group provides the electricity at a rate lower than National Grid's rate.
Colonial Power Group’s website has been updated with information for our community. It is there to provide education about our community’s Program, links to Hampshire Power’s and National Grid’s websites, and an online form so that consumers may opt-out at any time. This website will display for you the current Colonial Power's pricing as well as give you an opportunity to opt-in or opt-out of the program. By checking your current electric bill, you can find out who is your current supplier of electricity.
To reiterate, the difference will be that Colonial Power will be the electricity supplier instead of National Grid. National Grid will still be the distributor. The other difference is that Colonial Power is providing electricity to residents at a price below National Grid's price. Along with several other Berkshire County towns, we are taking advantage of open market competitive pricing.
